Or the same (kontakt 3 / kontakt 3 (2) / kontakt 3 (3) / kontakt 3 (4)).Įach instance has to be addressed separately on the manual soundsets tab. If you want 64 midi channels you will need to assign four active devices, whether they are the different (sibelius vst / kontakt vst) Defining it can take one, two, three or four of the tabs. Posted by Russell D - 21 Feb 09:30PM (edited 21 Feb 09:31PM)Ĭan I try this one step at a time, and let Daniel do any corrections / blanks?Ī configuration is a configuration. I would expect the former to mean "I have assigned four instances of VE to this score named "Winds","Brass","Misc" and "Strings", but then when I go to the "Manual Sound set page, I see only one, and just the act of going there usually kicks off another instance of VE-which may or may not be associated with the VE "project" for that section-yet I can't associate more than one set of 16 instruments on the Manual Sound Set page to a "configuration".ĭo I have to create a completely clean configuration in "Playback", then go in and assign all 64 channels from scratch? What is the relationship between "configuration" on the Playback page and "configuration" on the "Manual Sound Set" page? (I think this is probably the key to my confusion.) What is the purpose of the "multiple named copies" of the VE App (not in the "Playback" page, but in the "Applications" directory, as in the VSL video)? Do I start those with their associated projects BEFORE I start SIb, or open the score?
I can assume from what Daniel wrote above that I do not have to worry about MIDI assignments, just instrument->staff associations?
I'm going to have to do this one step at a time. (Yeah, more like "Groundhog Day".) It still seems to start up another instance of VE every time I go from the Active Devices to the Manual Sound Set page.
Once again the spinning rainbow, off to Activity Monitor, processes doing nothing, kill -9 VSL this and that, kill Sib, reboot, back to where I started if I'm lucky.
OPEN EWQLSO LOGIC MOVIE
I have had no problem loading ONE instance of VE-which the document describes well-but loading more than one is like being in some Stanislav Lem sci-fi movie about suddenly being jerked back in time and seeing yourself doing something you were doing five minutes ago, having completely different outcome, but then being jerked back to where you were five-minutes ago again: well, more like "Groundhog Day", I guess. If you haven't seen, I suggest you check it out. You should find that provided your Manual Sound Sets are set up correctly, Sibelius will automatically assign the most appropriate sound from the available channels without you needing to think about it. Now open up a score, and in the Mixer, expand the staff strip for each staff so that you can see the menu listing the chosen device and the chosen sound. You obviously also need to create appropriate manual sound sets for each of your instances of Vienna Ensemble using the Manual Sound Sets page of Playback Devices. (Do this by clicking twice on the name of the device in the right-hand Active devices list.) I would suggest naming the instances of Vienna Ensemble in Play > Playback Devices as e.g. Posted by Daniel Spreadbury - 21 Feb 11:02AM

6.1: Vienna Ensemble, multiple Instances, how to see them & assign instruments to channels? Windows: ADX DAW Workstation, Gigastudio, Cubase

Mac: Sib 5, MacBook Pro (2G), 8 Core Mac Pro (14G), Logic Express, VSL SE & SE+ So how do I assign channel one in my winds VE instance to a piccolo, and channel one in my brass VE instance to Horn 1? What's the workaround for the lack of MIDI port assignments in this case? The mixer just has a very long list of staves/channels: it seems useless in this regard. goes with which "standalone" instance of the VE App (of which I see no evidence in Sib). I have multiple instances of the VE App as a in the activated device list, but can't tell how in the assignment window I'm supposed to say which instance (2), (3), etc. Sibelius still thinks I'm trying to assign to the same 16 MIDI channels, rather than (theoretically) 64, and I don't see any evidence anywhere in the playback setup of any way to assign two instruments to two "different" channel ones. I have made multiple copies of the VE app, but how do I get Sibelius to "see" and identify those copies and associate them with an "Active Device". I am trying to use multiple instance of VE from inside Sibelius, basically, one for winds, one for brass, one for "other" and one for strings.
